Plants: Smooth Hydrangea
Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) is a native form of the popular hydrangea shrub. Growing naturally along the eastern United States in woodlands and along the edges of swamps, Smooth Hydrangea is prized for its large flower heads and large green serrated leaves.
Smooth hydrangea shrubs are available in different sizes and forms, and grow well with morning sun and dappled afternoon shade. Like most hydrangea, Smooth prefers well-drained, but organic-matter rich soil. Smooth hydrangea are not very drought-tolerant, especially during their first year of planting.
